I’m not someone who normally does this, yet I have felt compelled to make a comment about each of the three talks I have heard Ian give, because I have been so inspired by them.
I don’t know how he does it, but somehow Ian seems to seamlessly and effortless weave a tapestry of deep Dharma wisdom from so many varying sources on any topic he tackles. We get the wisdom of ancient sages, contemporary teacher, poets and historical perspective to boot.
This particular talk, so needed at this time, both soothed and energized me. Ian looks at and presents the Big Picture view I think is most needed when so many individually horrific incidents, both nature and man made, seem to be overwhelming us in this particular time period.Yet Ian brings in so many examples of ways in which our tragedies are no more, and in some cases even less acute than other eras, while he gently and wisely nudges us not to “tip over into despair”, from which stance we can never be of help.
Thank you so much Ian for helping me to see this.
